Midland Chemotherapy Nursing Certification Framework

Midland Cancer Network worked with the clinical nurse managers and charge nurse managers of ambulatory chemotherapy services in a lean thinking initiative in 2010 to prepare for implementation of the new medical oncology prioritisation criteria.  Informal discussions highlighted a need for a more comprehensive regional chemotherapy nursing certification process.  While the Cancer Nurses Section within NZNO has signalled the need for the development of national certification standards it will be some time before these are developed and agreed.  This initiative is supported by the Midland directors of nursing.

This new framework will comprise e-learning modules, practical workshops and regular refreshers.  The e-learning modules are currently being trialled and the first practical workshop is scheduled for February 2012.
